What You Should Know About The Calvary Baptist Church
Have you ever heard of the Calvary Baptist Church? Well, in this article, you will know lots of things about Calvary Baptist Church. Basically, it is a Baptist church located in the Chinatown neighborhood in Washington, D.C. It has connections with the Alliance of Baptists, the District of Columbia Baptist Convention, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America, the American Baptist Churches USA, and the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists. However, they severed their connections in 2012.
It was founded on 2 June 1862 by Amos Kendall. His donation for the construction of the building was about $90,000. On June 1866, when Kendall was made a senior deacon in the church, the constructions of the building was finally finished. But within 18 months the building was consumed by fire. Because the building was just insured for $50,000, Kendall willingly donated another $15,000 to rebuild it.
During 1983, the Calvary Baptist Church founded the Calvary Womens Services. It was the first women’s homeless shelter in Washington Metro area. They aim to empower homeless women in Washington, D.C. by transforming their lives through housing, health, education, and employment programs. In addition, they ensure women have access to the proper trauma-informed healthcare and educational support they need to take positive steps toward independence. The Calvary Womens Services programs included daily addiction recovery meetings personalized case management, life skills and education opportunities, job training, on-site therapy transitional and permanent housing, and health and wellness services.

By visiting their church, you can listen to their sermons. Small groups have meetings during weekends while during Sundays, schools hours begin at 9:45 am Beginning 9:30 am, the children and youth programs go on until the worship hours. Finally on Sundays, their weekly worship starts at 11:00 am.
